"Draw in a single, unbroken line and don’t look back at the drawing until you are finished." Without looking down at the paper, trace your eye around your subject, following its edges and contours, and as you do so, let your pencil follow the same journey on the paper," explains Spicer. "Set up a subject in front of you and fix your eye on the top of it, placing your pencil on your paper. One common exercise to start out with is blind contour drawing. Then right-handers should work left to right, and lefties move right to left. Essentially you don't want to be resting your hand on areas you've already drawn, which means that unless you have an unusual pencil grip, you want to be working top to bottom. However, planning which area of the composition you work on first can help. Pencils are prone to smudging, and the softer they are, the more difficult it is to keep things clean. "I strongly believe in letting intuition take over in the creation process, so I work with the underdrawing more as a guideline," continues Von Reuden. Either way, make sure this acts as a foundation rather than a strict guide. Alternatively, you could use a digital underdrawing, printed at 1 per cent Opacity. "Having a more fluid foundation helps you see the end result without the intimidating commitment of getting everything perfect," says artist Timothy von Reuden.įor a pencil underdrawing, make sure you use a hard lead (around 2H) to ensure the lines are light and easy to erase. Many artists prefer to start their pencil drawing by laying out the scene with a rough, light underdrawing – this can be especially useful if the end game is a precise line drawing. The underdrawing should be a guide, but use your intuition (Image credit: Timothy von Reuden)

#Dice tower youtube how toWhy? Because some people believe in winning at all costs and learn how to throw dice so that they don't roll properly (after they palm the result they want), and they will be sneaky as to throw bad when it doesn't matter so people think the results are random. The question is, why am I going to feel bad about luck/suspect my friends on luck streaks when I could instead use a dice tower or dice tray? I'd rather not try to correct people's approach to throwing dice to ensure randomness when there's a sure fire alternative. So even though I don't personally use them when I'm playing solo I actually always carry it in my bag of stuff and will set it up unasked when (pre covid anyway) I'd go to play games in various places, and it worked really well to get people to play. Personally, I love the feel of rolling dice on my own for sure, but my cheap thick cardboard dice tower I got at my LGS on clearance years ago has served to make games w/dice a lot more accessible to friends and family that normally would not ask to play or be disinterested due to physical barriers. I see a lot of comments here going 'why can't you just roll dice' but I play games regularly with people who literally cannot roll dice, but can use a dice tower. I don't think I saw many other comments (if any) mention it and tbh for most people this likely isn't a big concern, and I'd actually wonder if it were really why dice towers were made, but for me a big aspect of their use and value is accessibility. Eventually that adds up and you have to take time to reorganize those pieces. Those vibrations knock other things out of place ever so slightly. I personally do not enjoy dice rolled on the actual game board. All rolling can happen in a neat little area. These are even better if you have limited table space. You can't really try to influence dice that tumble down a dice tower. Dice towers eliminate both of those issues for me and the people I've played with. For some reason those dice rolls never count unless some good numbers come up. #Dice tower youtube fullI personally believe keeping the tempo of a game going is criminally underrated as far as board gaming experiences go and anything we can do to minimize that within reason is worth trying.Ĭontrary to that there are the other people who roll dice and that don't even go a full rotation. All of that time adds up and it can take people out of the game and adds unnecessary length. Does that dice roll still count if it goes on the floor?."but I rolled a 6." Also this causes more time than should ever be spent looking for dice that shoot off the table. There are some people who put ungodly amounts of energy into the dice they roll. I love them personally and often try not to play without them. r/tabletopgamedesign - Designer's subreddit.r/boardgameexchange - selling/buying/trading games.Game of the Week Calendar Related Sites & Subreddits The simplest use is to bold game names in your comment and add " /u/r2d8 getinfo" at the end of the post, but this post/sub has other features identified. Monster Hunter is best played with others around the world - that's the fun of it! If you're a veteran of Monster Hunter, well, you don't need any advice. In fact, once you are familiar with the weapon system, you can immediately jump on multiplayer as well just to get a feel of hunting with other players. (The next important thing is to learn how different monsters "behave" during hunts - it's the difference between success and failure in a hunt!) Your weapon is the main thing (other than armour next) that will carry you through your initial hunts. #Nintendo switch monster hunter rise deluxe edition how toJust learn the basics, and I would say the key basic thing to learn is weapon handling - just pick ONE weapon (easier ones to pick up include sword and shield, dual sword, long sword - note easy to pick up doesn't mean easy to master!), and learn how to use it. There is a whole lot to learn, however, you don't need to learn everything in order to enjoy the game. Take your own sweet time at the beginning with the single player "campaign" which walks you through different quests which introduces you key aspects of the game. Fun new mechanics such as the wirebug which turns you into a bit of a mini Tarzan, and of course, the monster or wyvern riding capability, letting you control some monsters If you're new to Monster Hunter, my advice is to take it easy. it's quicker to collect materials along the way (it used to be painfully slow), the Palamute speeds up travel, hold A to carve a fallen monster multiple times, etc. MH Rise maintains the fun of monster hunting (it's most fun when hunting with other players) but adds two key things: 1. #Nintendo switch monster hunter rise deluxe edition seriesI have played every iteration of the Monster Hunter series since MH3 Ultimate on the Nintendo DS then 3DS (though I've not played MH World). #Nintendo switch monster hunter rise deluxe edition OfflineWhether it's at home, on the go, online or offline - you'll always be ready for your next hunt on the Nintendo Switch! … Expand Brand new gameplay systems such as the high-flying 'Wire Action' and your canine companion 'Palamute' will add exciting new layers to the already robust combat that Monster Hunter is known for. #BINARY AGE TOTALFINDER CODE#Interested persons may want to look at Yabai which uses some of the same APIs that TotalSpaces2 does (and I believe early on reversed some TotalSpaces2 code - we don’t mind!). It is unlikely we will make these apps open source. We will cease selling new licenses in the summer. We will continue to provide limited support TotalFinder and TotalSpaces2 until the end of 2021. We will not work on making TotalFinder or TotalSpaces2 work with the next version of macOS, and they will not be ported to Apple Silicon macs. So we have to admit that it’s the end of the road for TotalFinder and TotalSpaces2. However, the support in Big Sur is imperfect, and we are not able to support Apple Silicon macs at all. As it happened, we did better - we continued to make releases in 20, bringing support to Catalina and now to Big Sur. This is due to the additional protections Apple are adding, the changing technology, and more generally the lack of Apple provided APIs to do the kind of system modifications that our customers want.Īt that time we promised to support the products during the lifetime of Mojave. What now?Īt the end of this post from 2018 we noted that TotalFinder and TotalSpaces2 have had a good run, but it is certainly becoming more difficult to support these products. We found that some people preferred the TotalFinder tabs, but this did reduce the relevance of TotalFinder to many people. Turning SIP off was uncomfortable to do (requiring two reboots), and uncomfortable for us to recommend.Īlso notable was that Apple to some extent “Sherlocked” TotalFinder by implementing their own tabs implementation in Finder. This prevented modification of the system software, and had to be turned off for the installation or running of our products. Over the years Apple has erected many obstacles, the most important of which was their “rootless” implementation, System Integrity Protection. Amazingly, TotalFinder has been available for over 11 years, and TotalSpaces for almost 9 years. We were able to replace that functionality, and add some configurability and improvements of our own.Īs time went by, we continued to develop these products and support them. In April 2012 we released TotalSpaces for macOS Lion, since the grid spaces functionality that we absolutely loved was removed by Apple after the Snow Leopard release. We think that TotalFinder was able to really make a difference in the usability of Finder, and we found there was a great deal of support for it. Although many still remember that operating system with fondness, the Finder implementation of the time was ripe for improvement. An early version of TotalFinder was first released in November 2009 during the golden days of Snow Leopard. Regardless of where the nickname started, the concept of an identification tag originated long before that. Another rumor said it was because the tags looked similar to the metal tag on a dog's collar. Other rumored origins of the nickname include World War II draftees calling them dog tags because they claimed they were treated like dogs. According to the SSA, Hearst referred to them as "dog tags" similar to those used in the military. He had heard the newly formed Social Security Administration was considering giving out nameplates for personal identification. In 1936, Hearst wanted to undermine support for President Franklin D. Official figures declare about 1,176,500 non-fatal casualties and 85,000 fatalities directly caused by chemical warfare agents during the course of the war.VIRIN: 190829-F-DD647-1004B Origins of the "Dog Tag" NicknameĪccording to the Army Historical Foundation, the term "dog tag" was first coined by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. A total of 50,965 tons of pulmonary, lachrymatory, and vesicant agents were deployed by both sides of the conflict, including chlorine, phosgene, and mustard gas. The first full-scale deployment of deadly chemical warfare agents during World War I, was at the Second Battle of Ypres, on April 22, 1915, when the Germans attacked French, Canadian, and Algerian troops with chlorine gas.ĭeaths were light, though casualties were relatively heavy. Germany used another irritant, xylyl bromide, in artillery shells that were fired in January 1915 at the Russians near the town of Bolimów, nowadays in Poland. One of Germany’s earliest uses of chemical weapons occurred on October 27th, 1914 when shells containing the irritant dianisidine chlorosulfonate were fired at British troops near Neuve-Chapelle, France. The French were the first to use chemical weapons during the Great War, using tear gases, ethyl bromoacetate, and chloroacetone. The Hague Declaration of 1899 and the Hague Convention of 1907 forbade the use of “poison or poisonous weapons” in warfare, yet more than 124,000 tons of gas were produced by the end of World War I. The canaries were used to detect poisonous gas, and cats and dogs were trained to hunt rats in the trenches. Horses, donkeys, mules, and camels carried food, water, ammunition, and medical supplies to men at the front, and dogs and pigeons carried messages. However, animals remained a crucial part of the war effort. Horse and camel-mounted troops were used in the desert campaigns throughout the war, but on the Western Front, new weapons like the machine gun made cavalry charges increasingly difficult. In 1914, both sides had large cavalry forces. For years few knew of the unimaginable suffering of the beasts transported across the Channel to the Western Front. This is the forgotten tragedy of the Great War – a conflict that pitched as many animals into the line of fire as it did humans. Of the million British horses sent overseas to help with the war effort, only 62,000 returned home. Horses were equipped with gas masks over their muzzles and were protected from inhalation of poison gases such as phosgene.Įquine eyes were not affected by lachrymatory agents so that their masks consisted only of specially made nose bags but, unfortunately, these animal’s eyes were vulnerable to the effects of chlorine and vesicatory gases. Horses, mules, dogs, and pigeons were vulnerable to poison gases so that special protection was necessary for them. Many animals were used during World War One. Two German soldiers and their mule wearing gas masks in World War One, 1916 The "pop" option will reapply the last saved state and, at the same time, delete and clean it from the Stash. These can be enabled in the Shortcuts tab of the preferences. You can now use AirPods gestures or the EarPods inline remote to control Swinsian. Then select a track and click the field you want to edit. To enabled t turn on “Allow Editing Tags in Table” in the “Track Table” menu under the View menu. Swinsian 2 makes it easier to make quick edits by adding the ability to edit tags directly in the table. In Swinsian 1 it was only possible to edit tags in the Track Inspector. You can now specify any arbitrary combination of fields that you want to search in, rather than only being able to search title/artist/album or a single field at a time. The new searching options make searching more powerful and flexible. To enable it turn on “Artwork Columns Shows Every Album” in the “Track Table” menu under the View menu. The art column in the main table has a new mode that means the artwork for each album will always be visible, even if the album only contains a small number of tracks. There’s also now an option to move the Art Grid to the left of the track table instead of above. It’s also now possible to hide the Art Grid control bar to make the best use of limited screen space. For example if the grid is sorted by artist then all the albums for each artist will be grouped together. There’s a new grouped mode where albums are separated into separate rows based on the sorting option used. The Art Grid has been improved in several ways to make it more customisable to fit how you like to display your music. You can either drag bands individually to adjust them, or hold down the control key and click and drag the mouse cursor across the bands to draw curves. It supports either 10 band or 31 band modes. To access the graphical equalizer settings click the equalizer button at the bottom left of the main window. Is there a setting I am missing If not, what’s the best way to manage these - when I’m in the truck, I am presented by too many options on the touch screen, it’s easier to search for a compilation, for example by Ivan Smagghe rather than remember a title. Swinsian lyrics companion upgrade#Swinsian 2 is a free upgrade for all existing users. Am I losing the plot I’m sure swinsian was compiling folders based upon album artist. The interface allows for more customisation in the way your music is displayed and support for peripherals has been improved. It’s also now possible to hide the album and artist labels in the art column for a cleaner appearance. The height for each album is now adjusted to save space when an album only contains a few tracks and the art column has been made narrow. The layout of the track table when the art column is visible and the “Show Every Album in Album Art Column” option is enabled has been improved. It’s now possible to change the character used to split the field from a comma to a slash. The option to split a genre into several values in the genre browser column (so that a track with the genre “Pop, Rock” will show up under “Pop” and “Rock”) has been extended to the artist field as well. It’s also now easier to change the field shown in each browser column right click the top row to select a different type for that column. It’s now possible to make Swinsian automatically select the currently playing track by enabling “Automatically Select Playing Track” in the Navigate menu. There are several new features as well as some improvements to the interface. Version 2.1 of Swinsian is now available to download. #Baskerville typeface design full#iFactory’s classic appreciationĪt iFactory we are all about modern innovation, but we do appreciate the classic masters like John Baskerville, who set the classic benchmark for what’s possible.Īs a full service creative and digital agency for web design in Brisbane, iFactory has a growing team of Internet professionals that can deliver stylistic, professional, market-driven internet solutions that draw on a huge range of influences, from the modern to the classic. But in recent times it’s had something of a revival, with many foundries re-releasing Baskerville type with updated features.Įverything old is new again, and Baskerville is here to stay. Baskerville’s enduring appealīaskerville’s type fell out of favour for many years, and was derided as a stereotypical classic font. Baskerville’s most notable typeface Baskerville represents the peak of transitional type face and bridges the gap between Old Style and Modern type design.Įmigre, a type foundry, released a popular revival of this typeface in 1996 called Mrs Eaves, named after Baskerville’s wife, Sarah Eaves.īaskerville’s finest achievement is considered to be his Bible of 1763 – no mean feat for an atheist! By the time of his death in 1775, Baskerville had etched his name in typography history. However since the 1920s many new fonts have been released by Linotype, Monotype and other type foundries – revivals of his work and mostly called Baskerville. Baskerville’s classic appealĪ transitional font that mixes classical elements and modern lines, the Baskerville font family is elegant, yet also bold and authoritative.īaskerville’s letters were used to print the first versions of the epic poem Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained by John Milton, and were adopted by the prominent American statesman and inventor Benjamin Franklin as the standard typeface for US government publishing.īaskerville’s work was criticised by his competitors and soon fell out of favour. He also pioneered the practice of adding wide margins and leading between each line. So designing his own family of typefaces was a natural progression, and along with his punchcutter John Handy, Baskerville designed a new typeface as well as a new kind of paper, which showcased his new type. He set up a printing business in the year 1750 and took seven years to produce his first printed book! But printing was no easy thing back then – Baskerville had to build his own printing presses, make his own inks and even make the paper. But it was his work as a typographer that brought him lasting prominence. John Baskerville was born in 1706, carving out a long life as a businessman who dabbled in stone cutting, papier mache and lacquer ware. #Baskerville typeface design series#Serifs are the lines added to the strokes of letters to make them more defined – and in modern times sans serif typefaces are supreme, prized for their clean lines and elegance.īut fonts using serifs have their place too, and one of the most classic fonts in history is the Baskerville family of typefaces, invented by the English typographer John Baskerville.įor part three of iFactory’s series on influential typographers it’s time to get back to the classics and meet John Baskerville, the man whose letters quite literally wrote the books. In typography there are two basic ways to style letters – with serifs, or without.
